TØRM, a name you might not have heard of but one you should definitely pay attention to, especially if you are looking for high quality, understated cycling apparel above the waist!

Describing themselves as a deliberately small British company making premium quality Merino Sportwool® cycling jerseys base layers and accessories, TORM is the brainchild of owners Paul and Al who also happen to run SP Cycles in Kent.

I have been testing a couple of their products (T8 cycle jersey, B2 long sleeve Base Layer) since October all through the winter and various conditions, and I can say one thing only, they are truly superb value for money!

Lets start with the T8, made from Sportwool® which was developed to combine the physical performance attributes of synthetics with the comfort and breathability of a natural fibre. This jersey is incredibly comfortable to wear both straight on the skin or over a Base Layer, is lightweight and yet it is still able to maintain warmth.

I have used this combined with the B2 Base Layer down to 5oc and right up to 15oc (minus the B2) and was never once anything but comfortable. The understated design is something that most will find appealing and coming in a range of colour combos this should suit all tastes. The jersey itself has a full zip and not one but two zipped pockets in addition to a further 3 open ones, so there is plenty of space for all your essentials! The reflective detailing on the back, double stripe on the arms and TØRM logo finish this off perfectly. , You want to know the best bit though, the price, £59 is great value for money as far as I am concerned.

Moving on to the B2 Base Layer, this is made from the same Sportwool® materials as the T8 jersey and is equally impressive. I will freely admit that I used it constantly throughout the Winter and now still, in to early Spring, whether I was cycling or running I found it kept me really warm, the only problem was getting it cleaned quick enough to get it back on again! The wicking qualities were good and the feel on the skin was very comfortable. Available in two colours with subtle detailing at the cuffs and bottom of the Base Layer this is a great addition for any cyclist’s wardrobe.

Just to end then I asked them why no bibshorts or tights and the answer was simple, there are already plenty of affordable good quality bibs on the market. They would rather do one thing and do it well. They certainly deliver!!
